"Blue Arc"

35" x 32"
Irregularly Shaped Piece
Acrylic on hardboard
(U.S.) $ 8,000
"Blue Arc" is one of those works which are difficult to classify. Although in its making conventions of painting predominate "Blue Arc" also has some sculptural elements and is slightly irregular of shape - not quite the rectangle which characterizes most paintings. "Blue Arc" is what I think of as a "literalist" work: I have curved an edge, telescoped the upper part of the substrate into the lower and invaded the painting area by carving or drilling into it to reveal its thickness. "Blue Arc" is an art object, with stress on "object", and makes no conscious reference to anything other than the conventions of painting and sculpture.
